FOURTH DEGREE NEWS

FROM YOUR FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR

Brother Knights & Ladies:

Warm greetings to everyone!  I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer.  It’s hard to believe that the summer is behind us and fall is just around the corner.  The days are getting shorter and the evenings are getting cooler.

The St. Nicholas Picnic is behind us and I would like to thank Sir Knight Charlie Gruenke and Sir Knight John Sprosty for chairing this event.  A big THANK YOU

to all Brother Knights and their wives for their assistance in making this event a success.

The weather was perfect for a picnic.

As I begin my second year as your Faithful Navigator, I would like to thank all the officers for their support and dedicated work.  I would like to thank Sir Knight Duane Glancey for completing his three year term as trustee and I would like to welcome Sir Knight John Zalewski as the new three year trustee.

Our annual audit was held in August and I would like to thank the trustees and our Faithful Comptroller, Gerald Ziegler for a job well done.

Our first meeting will be on September 17th with mass at 6:00 P.M. at the KC Hall with

Our Faithful Friar, Rev. Michael Dineen as celebrant.  A social and dinner will follow.

God Bless you!

CHAPLAINS MESSAGE

As I write this I am still in the spirit of the August feast days honoring Mary, -- the feast of the Assumption, and the feast of Mary’s Queenship. There was also the feast of the Dedication of St. Mary Major in Rome. This special day recalls the zealous and fervent efforts in the early Church to honor Mary and proclaim her as one to be forever remembered for her sacred calling.

There are two special days in September that give honor to Mary. September 8th is the celebration of her birthday, and September 12th is the celebration of her precious name, Mary. In his first encyclicals, Deus Caritas Est, God is Love, and SPE SALVI Facti Sumus,  In Hope We Were Saved, Pope Benedict, frequently invits us to imitate Mary. “Her gentle loving person is there for us to emulate in our calling by God to respect and care for each other.”

Pope Benedict writes, “Outstanding among the saints is Mary, mirror of all holiness. As she crossed the field to visit her cousin Elizabeth, their hearts were united as were their wombs. John five months pregnant in Elizabeth’s womb leapt for joy at the presence of Mary in whose precious womb was her son Jesus. Mary is in close union with her beloved cousin and mentor Elizabeth. The Mother of God  is so overjoyed that she recited the Magnificat.”

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him. He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly.  The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent empty away.  He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy,  according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever."

I thought you and I might take this beautiful prayer to heart and say it every day.

Many Blessings,

Fr. Mike
