FOURTH DEGREE NEWS

FROM YOUR FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR

Brother Knights & Ladies:

Happy summer!!!  At our last meeting we had a Memorial Mass and paid tribute to our departed Brother Knights.  Please refer to the article in this issue of the Knight Letter for the names of our departed Knights that were honored.  I would like to thank our Faithful Friar, Fr. Michael Dineen for celebrating Mass for us.  Fr. had an inspiring homily, as usual.  Thanks Fr. for all you do for the Knights of Columbus! At our last meeting I also had the privilege to present a Fireman / Policeman Scholarship to Amy Capelle.  The funds for this came from the proceeds of our annual Spaghetti Dinner.  Congratulations Amy and God’s blessings to you as you enter college.

We will soon be celebrating the 4th of July.  Take a moment to THANK GOD for our Freedom and for our wonderful Country!  I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday.

We will not have a July or August meeting.  Please keep July 30th open to help at the St. Nicholas Hospital picnic.  If you can help out in any way and have not been contacted, please call Sir Knight Charlie Gruenke or Sir Knight John Sprosty.

The installation of officers will take place at 7:00 P.M. on August 19th.  This will take place at St. Francis Xavier School in Manitowoc.  I will be in contact will all officers prior to this.  I would like to thank all of my officers for the great job they are doing and look forward to working with you in the fall.  Have a wonderful summer!!

Our next meeting will be on September 17th with Mass at 6:00 P.M. at the Sheboygan K.C. Center.  Cocktails and dinner to follow!!

God Bless you All!

Fraternally,

Your Faithful Navigator,

Richard M. Tauferner

CHAPLAINS MESSAGE

Dear KC Members,

An Italian scientist by the name Giacomo Rizolatti, a neuroscientist, has just published a book entitled, Mirrors in the Brain---how our minds share actions and emotions. In the author’s words: -- “mirror neurons in the brain show us how strong and deeply rooted is the bond that ties us together as persons and  that is why we can never conceive of an I without an us or a me without a we.” He goes on to say that “these neurons are jolted when people come together for evil purpose and they dance with delight, as it were, when people come together for that which is good.”

Recently there was a very striking picture in the Sheboygan Press of Jared Widder and Valerie Klessig, Valedictorians for South and North High, in a very strong hand embrace- they knew they had to be, indeed were-- us, and we- not an I and me.

Brett Favre often said that his success was not him, not I, but us – the team. A few weeks ago a reporter for the Sheboygan Press asked Lexi Buchberger from Christ Child Academy - about building rockets, and they quoted her with the words “there was a lot of teamwork.”

Bill Gates in his partnering with many great brain people said that his most important and essential partner was his wife,- and they are now partnering together in their mission to share millions of dollars from their foundation to help the poor across the world.

So the lesson is that we are successful when we come together in a common cause – in a common effort to help each other do good things. We are impelled by these God-given neurons in our brain to work together for good.

We, as KC members, are united for this very reason. We are a community of persons, united with our auxiliary members, and dedicated to do some very good things;--things that would never be accomplished except for our coming together with each other. It is in this "we" that these good things are accomplished because that is the way God made us.

Fr. Mike
